TDN: Plus One – Vote for the best drink!

The challenge last week was to take your favorite cocktail and add one (+1) ingredient to it, put it in a dress, and give it a new name. The prize is a signed picture of Blair ‘Trader Tiki’ Reynolds in a dress! And some booze too, once we figure it out. But we know which prize is more important. Thursday Drink Night on March 11th will be “Unsimple“  Simple syrup is the great equalizer in creating new cocktails – and we’re getting rid of it. No syrups this week. No syrups! Check out the recipes then vote! (Poll below recipes) Upper East Side: 2 1/4 oz rye whiskey, 1 oz Carpano vermouth, 1/2 oz allspice dram, 3 dashes of Peychaud’s and a flamed orange peel to garnish. Siderac: 1 1/2 oz Cognac, 3/4 oz Cointreau, 3/4 oz lemon juice, 5 dashes Peychaud’s. Shake and strain into sugar rimmed coupe, garnish with flamed orange. Margareviver: 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, 1/2 oz lime juice, 3 dashes absinthe. Salt rim, shake, and strain.

Shrimp Spaghetti with Cilantro Pesto

A pack of pasta is a must in my pantry, so are many more musts.  I must confess, i am a hoarder, i can never pass off a good deal and a sucker to new brands and types of noodles.  They are like recipes, you try them once, if they are good, then they are keepers.  My freezer is packed,  my daughter would warn my grandchildren that they are not to open the freezer, if they have to do it, they would have to have their bike helmets on.  My most favorite item in the freezer, is the 26 - 30 shrimps,  when they are on sale, $4,00/lb, i will buy a few packets(2 lbs/pkt).  They are the quickest to defrost and shrimp dinner will be served as soon as they are defrosted.  Having a tub of homemade cilantro pesto in the freeser,  aided my quest for dinner too, especailly when friends or family decide to drop by.Ingredients:1 pound spaghetti pasta1  pound shrimp, peeled and deveined1 teaspoon kosher salt1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper1/2 c

Bodacious Bodices!

Just a quick note before I head out to work, did want to share one pic from the Ren Fest on Sunday! Yes, I donned my corset and had a lovely time with My Pirate but despite Beren's repeated suggestions to do otherwise, I did not participate in the "cleavage contest." Once I saw the competition, oh, my! There was no way I would win and chose instead to sip a nice cold beverage and just enjoy the scenery. *wink*I'm working on some new recipes so stay tuned for those; in the meantime, Have a Beauty-Full Day!

Sourdough Pancakes

A few weeks ago I posted the recipe for my Sourdough Pizza Crust. This was more of an experiment than anything else. An experiment that went very well for a change. I've been working on a little project to develop a sourdough starter for about a month now, and I've baked with it a few times. Enough to know that I have a good starter going. In addition to the sourdough pizza crust, I've made sourdough cornbread, sourdough pancakes, sourdough crumpets, sourdough blueberry muffins, and a sourdough paperweight. All those recipes will be posted in good time - well except the paperweight recipe. Fruit Salad With Nut Ricotta Cream

Preparation Time20 minutesIngredients (serves 4)2 tbs fresh lemon juice 2 passionfruit, halved 2 ripe bananas, peeled, cut into 1cm-thick slices 2 ripe nectarines, halved, stone removed, cut into wedges 150g fresh berries (such as raspberries, blackberries or youngberries) nut ricotta cream250g fresh low-fat ricotta 30g (1/4 cup) hazelnut meal 2 tbs yellowbox honey 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon  Method To make the nut ricotta cream, place the fresh ricotta, hazelnut meal, honey and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Use an electric beater to whisk until light and fluffy. Place in an airtight container. Combine the lemon juice and passionfruit pulp in a medium bowl.
